Homeopathy in Winter Park
Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician in the 1800s, is considered the father of homeopathy. Dr. Hahnemann, a man deeply rooted in the scientific method, critically condemned the medical practices of the day such as bloodletting and purging with medicines made with mercury, lead, and arsenic. He discovered the "Law of Similars" while researching cinchona bark which is used to treat malaria. Hahnemann, in perfect health, began taking this Peruvian bark two times a day for several days. He reported that he began showing identical symptoms to malaria. Upon conclusion of the experiment, he realized medicinal substances create symptoms in healthy people that were almost identical to the diseases they were meant to treat. This was the beginning of Dr. Hahnemann's distinguished career in homeopathy which lead to widespread acceptance of his method around the world. EPIDEMICS: FERTILE GROUND FOR THE USEFULNESS OF HOMEOPATHY
Homeopathic medicine has been used successfully by Hahnemann and others for treatment during some of the most devastating epidemics in history. During the European Typhus Epidemic of 1813, those treated in homeopathic hospitals had a mortality rate of less than 1 percent while those treated with allopathic medicine had a mortality rate well over 30 percent. Documentation for the Russian Cholera Epidemic of 1831 confirmed a death rate of under 10 percent for those treated homeopathically while conventional treatments had a death rate of up to 80 percent.
During the Spanish Flu Pandemic of 1918 that claimed the lives of millions, homeopathic hospitals had a remarkably low mortality rate. Twenty-six thousand cases of the flu were treated homeopathically with 1.05 percent mortality rate while the 24,000 cases that were treated allopathically had a mortality rate of 28.2 percent. Gelsemium was the most commonly used remedy for the H1N1 influenza virus of the pandemic.
Hahnemann was inspired to use homeopathic medicine as a preventative while treating several ailing children in two families. The first family had three children out of four who were ill with scarlet fever. The fourth, who was taking Belladonna for a finger joint problem at the time, remained free from the illness.
Shortly after, a family with eight children, three of which were already infected with scarlet fever, requested Dr. Hahnemann's expertise to help protect the other five children. Once again, he used Belladonna with positive result. All five children escaped the illness even though they were exposed repeatedly to their unwell siblings. After observing the protective effects of Belladonna against scarlet fever, Hahnemann continued to use this remedy with extraordinary success during epidemics.
Additional disease prevented by homeopathy in Winter Park
During a 1902 smallpox outbreak in Iowa, a Dr. Eaton reported that 2806 people were given Variolinum as a preventative. The rate of protection was an astounding 97 percent which was unheard of in allopathic medicine.
The British Medical Journal reported that during the 1974 meningitis outbreak in Brazil, those who were given Menigococcium prophylaxis were protected from developing the disease 23 more times than those who did not receive treatment.
Homeopathic medicine has also been shown to be astonishingly effective in preventing polio. In several studies involving over 11,000 children, Lathyrus Sativus was given as a 'vaccine' against the disease. Not a single case of polio was reported nor were there any documented side effects.
As safe alternative to conventional medicine, homeopathy in Winter Park is remarkably beneficial in preventing and treating many of the most dangerous communicable diseases known to man.
WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY - AND WHAT'S IT GOOD FOR?
Homeopathy is a wholistic natural therapy, which is its own complete therapeutic system. Rehabilitation Chinese Medicine of Orlando explains how homeopathy works without contraindications (interference with other medications you may be taking) or side effects to stimulate the body's curative responses so the body heals itself.
Homeopathy uses Homeopathic remedies to do its work.
The word Homeopathy means “homeo” = same and “pathy” = suffering. The name represents the LAW OF SIMILARS which is one its tenets. “Similia Similibus Curentur” in Latin.
Samuel Hahnemann, the father of homeopathy, published The Organon, the book in which he set out the principles of homeopathic medicine in 1810.
The first principle was the law of similars - that provoking symptoms similar to those caused by a disease could help the body fight off the disease.
Secondly, Hahnemann based prescriptions on the whole person with regard to his or her lifestyle and temperament and reactions, rather than just the physical symptoms of a disease - individualization.
The third principle was the law of infinitesimals. The third principle had to do homeopathic remedies. He used herbs and plants, minerals, and other materials and proposed that they were most effective when they were highly diluted and potentized.
Hahnemann believed that symptoms demonstrate an imbalance in a person. Diluted and potentized substances are able to assist the whole person to re-establish balance, a situation in which the symptoms are no longer needed.
- Similars: Allium Cepa - (red onion) for running eyes and nose
- Individualized by: tears are bland, nasal discharge irritates the skin
- Modalities: Headache aggravated closing the eyes, worse evening
- Generals: better in open air, worse warm room
Potentization is a process of increasing the potency of a remedy by dilution and succussion (shaking on a special machine or by hand). X = 1:10 dilutions. C = 1:100 dilutions After 12X there is no measurable substance in the remedy, only the “energy” of the substance.
Homeopathic remedies are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and prepared by licensed companies like Washington Homeopathic Products using strict guidelines of the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS).
Nearly all homeopathic medicines are available over the counter without a prescription in Winter Park. Homeopathic medicines are safe with no side effects.
Homeopathic remedies are diluted and succussed substances -- animal, mineral, botanical, chemical and organic by HPUS formulation requirements (free of herbicides or pesticides).
CONTEXT IN HISTORY
Homeopathy was used effectively in lots of epidemics in the 19th century. One example of homeopathy’s effectiveness: the avian flu pandemic in 1917-1918. 1/3 of the world’s population was affected. 3% of the world population died.
- 10-20% of those infected died
- 1-2% of those treated with homeopathy died
Homeopathy is now used all over the world – it is included in the national health care systems in Britain and India, also strong throughout Europe, Japan, New Zealand, and so on. The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies it as the 2nd most popular system of medicine in use in the world.
The first American homeopathic medical college was established in Allentown, PA in 1835. At the turn of the 20th century 20% of all medical practitioners in the U.S. were homeopaths (approximately 15,000) and there were 22 homeopathic medical colleges.
With the onset of the germ theory of disease and then antibiotics, allopathic (our present conventional) medicine grew in popularity, and homeopathy lost in popularity as medical schools started teaching the “new” medicine.
A homeopathic renaissance began in the late 1980s. In 1990, 2.5 million Americans sought out some form of homeopathic care. By 1999, that number rose to more than 6 million. Retail sales continue to increase at a growth rate unrivaled in the U.S. in a century.
